Newport, NH: Joyce (Hemingway) Goodwin, 91, passed away peacefully at Mt. Ascutney Hospital on Friday, March 17, 2023 due to recent health issues.

Joyce was born in Highgate, Vermont on January 19, 1932 to Raymond and Carrie Hemingway. She moved to Newport when she was 9 years old and lived here for the rest of her life. On March 31, 1951, she married Burton Goodwin and enjoyed 56 years of marriage. Joyce worked at the local shoe shops and then worked at Dorr Woolen Mill for 27 years.

Joyce was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt to her family. Family was everything to her and she was so proud of all of them. She was an avid bingo player and card shark. If she wasn’t playing bingo with Maggie, you could find her playing Rummy with Eunice or 31 with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Eunice and Robert Haight, and Lisa and Jerry Morse, her grandchildren, Julie (Roberts) and Mike Christian, Brandi (Roberts) Durgin, Douglas and Venus Morse, Jill (Morse) and Evan Rosenthal, and her great-grandchildren, Alexis Durgin, Vanessa Morse, Jaxon Rosenthal, Molly Rosenthal and Kamryn Morse. Also, her sister, Marlene Blanchard and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Burton, her siblings, Inza Johnson, Elsie Johnson, Orin Hemingway, Davis Hemingway, Allen (Punk) Hemingway, Joan (Honey) Sherman, and Susan Orrok.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Newport Senior Center, South Main Street, Newport, NH.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Newport, NH. A funeral will be held the following day at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery following the service.
