Judith "Judy" Brenner Obituary

Newport, NH: Judith “Judy” Mochel Brenner died peacefully in her sleep on 3/21/ 2023 at the age of 69. She was a beloved mother, mother-in-law, guppa (grandma), sister, aunt and friend to all that knew her.

Judy was born on 6/26/1953 in Philadelphia, PA- the fourth child to John and Janet Mochel. Along with her siblings: Sue, Janet (Patty) and John (Toby), Judy had a full and wonderful childhood. She was a natural athlete and was captain of her high school varsity field hockey and basketball teams. Judy was an active Girl Scout, and as a Senior Girl Scout in a troop headed by her mother, she was part of a Troop trip abroad to Italy. She also had a lovely singing voice and had leading roles in her college theatre productions. In 1971, she was an American Field Service foreign exchange student and lived for a year in Brazil, learning the language and living with a family in Sao Paulo while attending the local high school. She moved back to the Northeast afterwards to attend Springfield College. She then married David Brenner in 1976. They met and fell in love during their time working at the Cog Railway in the White Mountains.

Judy and David settled in Lempster, NH and began their family by raising Dalmatians. Then in 1984, Sally was born and Judy became a mother at the age of 32. Soon after, in 1987, Steven was born. Sally and Steven were Judy’s treasures, and she adored them more than anything. Judy was a hard-working, patient and wonderful mother to them both. Sally and Steven will always remember their mom as one that was always there for them and encouraged them to pursue their goals and happiness. She was so very proud of them both, and the people that they grew to become.

Judy had many hobbies, but the one that she will be most remembered for, is her talent as an amazing quilter. All her family and friends will forever treasure the vibrant and beautiful quilts that she lovingly created for them. They will be cherished and looked upon with fond memories of the time and patience that went into creating them.

Judy also loved to garden, read, cook, play with her grandkids and most recently, adored watching NCIS. She loved sitting on her porch watching the birds, and other wild life that would venture by. In the last year, she had even taken to feeding the neighborhood flock of turkeys. Her yard was most definitely their hang out place.

Judy was an amazing cook and spent many years cooking at Peter Christians Tavern in New London, NH, and most recently for the residents of the Tolls Home in Claremont, NH. She loved to provide happiness to everyone in the way of food!

Judy truly had the most generous heart. Over the years, she opened her home to many adopted pets, and “adopted” family members as well. Many people needing a place to stay, spent weeks/ months/years in Judy’s spare bedrooms as they got back on their feet. Many will remember Judy by her warmth, compassion and genuine friendliness, big smile and her ability to chat with anyone.

Judy is predeceased by her parents, John and Janet Mochel. She leaves behind her daughter, Sally Brenner of Acworth, NH, son Steven Brenner and daughter-in-law Alyssa, grandchildren, Amelia, Owen and Gabriel Brenner of Lempster, NH, siblings: Sue Mochel of Newport, NH; Toby Mochel and family of Jamestown, NC; Patty Mochel and family of Towson, MD; mother in-law Nancy Brenner of Newbury, NH; nieces and nephews and many friends.

A celebration of life will take place from 1 PM to 3 PM on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at The Common Man, 21 Water Street, Claremont, NH. In memory of Judy, the family requests that guests wear something yellow, her favorite color.
