Kevin Jones Obituary

Sunapee, NH: Kevin Frederick Jones, 62: son, brother, father, grandfather, friend, a proud Jarhead who rarely left his home in Sunapee without his Marine hat, lost his war with cancer.

Kevin had several careers but his true passion was carpentry at which he excelled.  Precise, never to be rushed, he did things right or not at all.

He worked for 7 years at Home Depot.  For 35 years he worked at Mount Sunapee in the snowmaking department and ran the control room - the wizard behind the curtain.

A week before he died, his coworkers gathered at the home to drop an enormous pine, too near to the house.  Every person stopped to talk.  Kevin smiled throughout, ending each goodbye with, "I'm going to kick this."

A few nights earlier, he was listening to music (loudly) when, Don't Worry Be Happy, played.  To the delight of the visiting grandkids, he got up and danced.

Grampa K had a real fondness for the grandkids.  Grampa K was the ever loving, ever indulgent Grampa and could always be counted on to say, "sure" when someone asked for one more.

Kevin could be gruff, insisted that things be done right (his way), but everyone knew he was really a marshmallow.  He had a great sense of humor, loved pranks.

He loved plants, to play golf with friends.  Working in the yard was a delightful activity.

He loved fireworks and a big gathering of friends and family on the 4th.  The 4th was his Christmas.  He would spend days before gathering up stock for the explosion bonanza.  He liked to "test" the fireworks days in advance so that he always had to buy more.  He bought so many fireworks that he was given a special customer t-shirt.

Helen Whittaker, Kevin's life partner for 21 years, was Kevin's rock.  Through the illness she cared for him round the clock, kept him comfortable and safe so that he could pass in his own home.  His "Angel" he named her.

Kevin lived life on his terms.  He had an iron will and until the bitter end, he did what he wanted, not what he was told.

Say a prayer, hold a warm memory so that you smile.  He will not be forgotten.
