Kevin J. Monahan

Kevin John Monahan, 59, of Newport, New Hampshire, passed away from pancreatic cancer on September 26, 2021. His loving wife and daughter were by his side in the comfort of their home. Although his life was much too short, he lived it to its fullest. After graduating from Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, Whitman, Massachusetts, he joined the US Marine Corps, and later became a New Hampshire State Trooper (if he ever pulled you over, it was nothing personal). He retired after 24 years and worked at Colby-Sawyer College for 6 years before (finally) fully retiring.

He married the love of his life, Karen, right after high school. Apart from her, his favorite people in the world were his grandchildren, Ansel, Juniper, and Kirie. As proud as he was to be a Marine and a State Trooper, his proudest moment was becoming their Pop. He loved, supported, and guided his three children throughout their lives: Sean (Ogden, Utah), Kelsey St. James (Gilmanton, New Hampshire, with her husband Silas), and Ryan (currently Quito, Ecuador).

Kevin was a loyal fan of all New England sports, especially the New England Patriots. He loved woodworking, RV-ing, puzzles, gardening, and reading. He was funny, thoughtful, and genuinely kind. He loved his friends but hated texting. Truth be told, he never actually texted anyone; Karen transcribed everything for him.

Kevin will proudly be laid to rest at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in a private service. An informal celebration of life for family and friends will be outside at the family’s home on Cheney Street, Newport, New Hampshire on Monday, October 4th. Please stop in to share a favorite memory anytime between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

In lieu of sending flowers, do the things that make you happy now instead of waiting for retirement; don’t waste any opportunity to tell your people you love them, no matter how tough you are.
