Lawrence "Larry" Flint Obituary

With a heart full of love, a life well-lived, and a spirit that never rested, Lawrence W. Flint, affectionately known as "Larry," passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, at the age of 78, with his youngest daughter by his side. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and community leader, Larry’s legacy is one of service, perseverance, and unwavering dedication to his family, community, and faith.
Born on May 16, 1946, in Worcester, MA, Larry was the son of the late Frederick M. Flint and Georgianna (MacPherson) Flint. A firm believer in lifelong learning and giving back, he pursued higher education with passion, earning degrees in environmental design and recreation resources. His commitment to service led him to enlist in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, honorably serving from his station in the Philippines. These values shaped his 35-year career in recreation, where he worked tirelessly to create opportunities for people of all ages to connect, grow, and thrive. Even in retirement, Larry remained deeply involved in his community, championing wellness, healthy aging and recreation initiatives across New Hampshire. His contributions earned him numerous awards, most recently, the Newport Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in both 1988 and 2018 and Newport Recreation Volunteer of the Year in 2019.
Larry had a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys—cheering for his beloved Red Sox, solving crossword puzzles, and sharing his lifelong love of Snoopy, whose humor and resilience mirrored his own. His resilience was nothing short of remarkable, defying medical odds for decades after a life-saving liver transplant in 1991. He was a fixture at family gatherings, a proud grandfather at every milestone, and a man whose determination, humor, and kindness touched all who knew him.
A devoted family man, Larry was married to his beloved wife, Marie, for 51 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and adventure, traveling nationally and internationally and inspiring those around them. Larry embraced every moment with energy—whether hiking, officiating softball and volleyball games, or completing his daily 12,000 steps. His life was a living example of his favorite motto, “If you rest, you rust.”
Larry leaves behind his loving daughters, Karyn (Ron) Fisher of Strafford, NH, and Laura (Paul) Maravetz of Waterbury Center, VT. He was a proud and adoring grandfather to Lucas (Alysha) Fisher, Sydney (Chris States), Sheldyn Fisher, and Gabe and Zachary Maravetz, and great-grandfather to Payton and Jesse States. The grandchildren all brought him immeasurable joy. Larry is also survived by his devoted sisters, Linda (Tom Roy) of Venice, FL, and Sandy (John “Jack” McMenemy) of Worcester, MA. He was predeceased by his sister, Judith (John Houlihan), and his stepmother, Alberta (Auren) Flint. Larry’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by his many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
