Newport, NH-Leslie C. Hamilton, 74, of Second Street, died Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the Concord Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born in Newport on February 18, 1948, the son of Henry and Marion (Colburn) Hamilton. Les graduated from Towle High School in Newport in 1966 and served in the US Army from 1967-1970 and was stationed in Germany. He lived in CT and was a tractor trailer driver for UPS in Stratford for 38 years retiring in 2009 when he moved back to Newport.
He really enjoyed working on his 1968 Pontiac car and also being a cannoneer with his brother firing the Legion Post #25 Civil War Cannon at various places. He liked playing horseshoes at the Veterans Club and especially enjoyed country music and karaoke. Animals were a favorite with Les and dogs held a special place in his heart.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Sandy (Mayo) Hamilton, his parents and two brothers, Carrol and John Hamilton. He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Fairbanks) Hamilton; his son Tom (Nikki) Hamilton of Sequim, WA; his daughter, Kristy Hamilton of Milford, CT; three stepchildren, Christine (Dominic) Vitti of West Haven, CT, Michael (Elizabeth) Gonsalves of East Haven, CT, Tonya Gonsalves of West Haven, CT; five grandchildren, Anthony Vitti, Jessica (Craig) DiFulvio, Miro Goncalves, Hailey Gonsalves and Jenna Gonsalves; two brothers, Paul (Sophie) Hamilton of Springfield, NH and his twin, Lloyd Hamilton, of Newport, NH; two sisters, Virginia Berquist of Claremont, NH and Shirley Sanborn of Bristol, NH; nieces, nephews and cousins.
