Sunapee, NH - Lillian Nutting, 92, passed away on May 1, 2019 at The Seasons at Summercrest after a brief decline of health.
She was born on May 30, 1926 in Boscawen, NH to the late Joseph Touchette and Scholastique (Bernier) Touchette. The oldest of four children, she was raised in New Hampshire and attended schools in Newport.
Lillian worked doing civil services in Texas during World War II before coming back to Newport and working for the telephone company until the business moved to Claremont, NH. She then went to work for Gloenco for 13 years before retiring at age 59.
Lillian also did secretarial work for the Newport Golf Club for several years. As a club member, she was active in many tournaments and won numerous trophies and prizes.
She liked bowling, knitting, and crocheting. She had a passion for old-fashion rug hooking. She made rug hooking kits and rugs for the Dorr Mill Store in Newport and also made rugs on consignment. Three of her rugs were photographed and featured for a rug hooking book called Hooked Rugs by Jessie A. Turbayne. Amongst her other accomplishments she was very proud of the fact that when she was in high school she typed the manuscript for the book Lighted Passage by Howell S. Vincent.
Lillian is predeceased by her husband, Raymond E. Nutting whom she married May 22, 1948. She is survived by her four children Ronald Nutting of Cornwall, Ontario Canada, Linda Nutting of San Antonio, Texas, Kenneth Nutting and Joanne Menard of Sunapee, NH, her sister, Pauline Christie, and her brothers, Raymond Touchette and Richard Touchette. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 2 pm at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St. Newport, NH 03773. A graveside service at North Newport Cemetery will immediately follow.
