Penelope "Penny" Pearson Obituary

Penelope “Penny” Pearson, of Newport, N.H. 69 years old, passed away on October 20, 2021 after long-standing complications stemming from a tragic auto accident approximately 19 years ago, which left her a quadriplegic. Penny was intelligent and strong-willed, and persevered as best she could. The family is deeply saddened by her death but are comforted knowing she will now be free of pain, and finally at peace.

Penny was born on June 20,1952 at the “then” Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover N.H. Penny enjoyed skiing at King Ridge in her high school years ,and was an instructor at the “Laurids Lauridsen” Ski School, where she enjoyed spending time with the Lauridsen family. Penny loved the outdoors, she loved to snowshoe in the winter, spend time in her garden in the warmer months, and walk her dog Kirby through the many wooded trails in the area.

Penny’s cats and dog were her “children” and meant everything to Penny. Growing up she and her family lived in New London N.H. and then Sunapee N.H. Penny graduated from Sunapee High School and attended Colby Junior College in New London. She then lived in Boston with friends from Colby, where she spent several years working at a bank, among other jobs.

Eventually, N.H. called her home where she lived in the New London area for the remainder of her years. She always loved New Hampshire and never strayed far from home. Throughout the years Penny worked at various places in the area: Kathan Gardens in Newport, Head Start school in Newport, and several convenience stores, where she knew many locals, and was always good at “chatting" with people. Penny even opened and ran her own convenience store in the old New London Drug Store on Main Street. Penny was very talented and ran a folk art business for several years named “Olde Toby’s” where she designed and painted a variety of folk art pieces.

Penelope is predeceased by her father, H. Peter Pearson, brother, Donald P. Pearson, and sister, Bonnie Pearson.  Surviving family includes her mother, Anne-Marie E. Richards of Ocala, FL, sisters,  Victoria S. Pearson and husband, Alan McGrady, of Newbury NH and Ocala Fl and Ann Pearson of Scottsdale, AZ, brother, Ian K.
