Rodney West Obituary

Newport, NH - Rodney E. West, 75, died peacefully at home on December 17, 2021.

He was born on October 3, 1946 to the late Earl West, Sr. and Lena (Cole) West in Newport, NH and lived in the area his entire life.  After graduating from Towle High School, Rodney joined the army, where he spent time as a chef.

Rodney worked at many places over the years including in the woolen mills and at Green Acres Ice Cream in Croydon. Many know him from all over our small little Sunshine town from his daily routine of errands with Marjorie, his lifelong best friend.

He is remembered from Village Pizza as being one of the first customers when they opened and becoming a regular, bringing 1 or 2 of his grandchildren each night when they were growing up, for his usual, 2 beers, a steak sub and for the kids the mini pizza with chips and a to go order of a Tuna or Ham grinder for Marjorie. He gave the grandchildren each 1 dollar in quarters to play on the game machine or put music on the juke box while they were there. Sometimes if we they were very well behaved, he would give them 1 more dollar to get more quarters.

He loved the old restaurant the A&W and his lunch dates with Marjorie there. He enjoyed sharing a sweet snack of circus peanuts and spice drops to eat with the kids. He also enjoyed spending time with them all fishing, antiquing, yardsaling, and going to flea markets.

Over the last 10 years he became well known as the "Man who walked the hill". He was an amazing man with a huge heart and did anything he could for anyone. Especially his best friend Marjorie, his son and grandchildren. He was a selfless, caring and an amazing role model to all that looked up to him. His family was his life and he was such a huge part of theirs. Rodney will be remembered, honored for his service and loved unconditionally as we all say our “see you later” because we will see him again.

He is predeceased by his parents.  Surviving family include and his partner and friend, Marjorie Scott; his son, Daniel West and his wife Anna; granddaughters, Jazmine Robbins, Samantha Clark West, Bethaney Bowie, Miah West, and Shaelynn West; grandsons, Jacob Robbins, Ryan Bowie, Isaiah West, and Jamon West,; great-grandchildren, Julian Quimby, Grayson Quimby, Daniel Bowie, Dominic Bowie, Aria Laquire, and Isla Laquire.
