Roger Alan Avery, 83, of Millinocket, ME died October 2, 2022, surrounded by loving family.
Roger was born in Newport, N.H. on August 15, 1939, to John I Avery, Sr., and Priscilla D. Avery.
He graduated from Towle High School in Newport, NH in 1957.
Roger was a true Patriot. In high school, he served as a Combat Engineer in the Army Reserves. Later, in the Air Force he served his country honorably from 1961-1964.
Roger graduated from Florida State University and later attended Thompson School of Agriculture at U.N.H. in 1978.
He loved his many decades working in farming and forestry. For the last several years of his life he was a Presidential Award-winning volunteer driver for Penquis in Bangor, ME.
Roger loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, the early morning light, walking the woods, tending to his gardens, reading the Bible and Louis l’Amour novels. He was an unshakable optimist. He had a kind word for every person he met and was known for his motivational quips and positive affirmations.
He swore by the excellent care he was given by the doctors, nurses and staff of the VA. The care he received in his final days was exemplary including the support given to his family through the Fisher
House in Augusta, ME.
He was an avid supporter of Tunnel to Towers, Golden Eagles, Wounded Warrior Project and the NRA.
Roger is survived by his children, Michael Avery, Lara Avery Laskowski, Priscilla Avery, Alex Avery; stepchildren Rob Burrill, Kristina Cornish, Carrie Glidden; sister Susan Cobb; 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and
siblings: John Avery Jr., Daniel Avery, Joy Estes and Gordon Avery.
A memorial will be held at Eastman Cemetery in Sunapee, NH on Saturday Sept 9th at 11am. All are welcome.
