Roger Porter Obituary

Roger Theodore Porter, 74, of Newport, NH passed away peacefully on November 24, 2021, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, surrounded with love.

Born on September 6, 1947, to the late Owen and Ella (Sanborn) Porter, Roger lived in the Newport area most of his life. He joined the army right out of high school. After returning home from the military, he met his wife Jean (Moote) Porter. They would go on to spend nearly 50 years together before his passing. His early years were spent working at Dorr Woolen Mill, Dartmouth Motors, and eventually Rugers where he retired from in 2010 before moving to Texas for a couple of years.

Roger was known for being a genuine family man. He loved being a husband, there was nothing that gave him more pride than the life he had created. He would talk often of stories from younger days and his love and pursuit of Jean. He loved his four stepdaughters like his own. Nothing made him prouder than being there for them. They would go on to have one more daughter.  They formed a unique bond of over the years. He will always be known to her as the best Dad ever. A man of few words, but the right words. Always there when he was needed.

Roger loved listening to his Johnny Cash and Elvis records, if you were lucky enough you might witness him shaking his legs a little Blue Suede Shoes. He had a passion for working on old cars with his cousin turned best friend Phil, and if they were not in the garage working on cars, you could find them out fishing for the next big catch. He enjoyed a close bond with Claude, a loyal friend, one that he could always count on. He loved visiting his daughter, Priscilla, in KY. Sitting on the back porch, surrounded by animals, drinking coffee, and listening to music. Roger was a dedicated Grampa as well, another part of life that he took immense pride in. He loved all his people and never missed a chance to show them. He will be deeply missed.

He is predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Owen Porter, Jr., Reggie Porter, Stanley Porter, and his sister, Laura Vance, and his stepdaughter Tonya Brown.

He is survived by his adored wife, Jean Porter (Moote). His daughter, Priscilla Osgood (Porter) and her husband John Osgood of Kentucky. His Stepdaughters, Nadeen Wentzell (LaFrance) and her husband Dean Wentzell of Newport, Alyson LaFrance and her fiancé Norm Carlson of Warner, and Hayley Pavlick (Moote) of Florida. His beloved grandchildren, Hillary and Chandler Wentzell, Ashley Swain, Michael, Jason, Kyle, and Pyper Osgood. Great Grandchildren, Brycen and Corbyn. Sister-in-law, Maureen Porter, of Newport.
