Newport, NH: Roland W. Partlow, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully at his home on Park Street in Newport on January 6, 2026, with his family by his side after a courageous struggle with lung cancer. He was born on January 29, 1946 in Claremont, NH to the late Roland Partlow, Sr. and Jennie (Kingsbury) Partlow. Roland married Cheryl Hudson in 1969 and they spent 49 years together before her death in 2018.
Roland lived in Newport all his life and worked for more than 30 years at Dorr Woolen. He was a hardworking man and took on many outdoor jobs after retirement. He left school after 8th grade to work on the family farm. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and square dancing. He was known as the "cat man" for his love of his cats and taking care of neighborhood strays. Roland loved animals and was known to feed chipmunks, squirrels, and birds at his home.
Roland was predeceased by his parents; loving wife in 2018; children, Roland "Junior" Partlow, III, and Shawn Partlow; and siblings, Donna Partlow, Davis Partlow, and Jackie Partlow.
Surviving family members include his children, Rolanda Shepard of Newport, and David Hudson of New Jersey; siblings, Michael Beauman of North Carolina, Barbara Blake of Claremont, and Lola Rogers of Newport; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A graveside service will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport in spring of 2026.
