Newport, NH: Sheridan J. Mead, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on February 21, 2026 She was born on October 7, 1946 in Coldspring, NY to Richard Curtis, Sr. and Shirley (Christian) Curtis.
Sheridan moved to Newport from Fishkill, NY in July of 1981. Known for her love of animals and her big heart, she made many friends within the community.
She enjoyed knitting and spinning with her group at the Hodgepodge. She loved camping with her husband, Elden Mead, Jr., as well as travelling the East coast and watching NASCAR.
An avid photographer, she would take pictures of the forest on her hikes. She was known for her big heart, her home always open to those who wanted to visit. She saw the good in everyone and had a positive outlook on life.
Sheridan greatly loved animals, and was always willing to help an animal in need. From dogs and cats to llamas, alpacas, goats and horses. She brought llamas to visit nursing homes, and led them in the Winter Carnival parade. She had special place in her heart for her 3-legged goat, Rodney, who became a house goat. She was a judge for sheep and wool festivals, and also sheared sheep.
Sheridan's family was her everything. She loved her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them, sharing laughs, stories, and her love of animals and NASCAR.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Elden Mead, Jr. Her surviving family includes her son Dean Mead, her daughter Tammi Bartley, her son William Mead, her brother Richard Curtis Jr., her 6 grandchildren: Craig Ingalls, Bryan Bartley Jr., Scott Bartley, Caitlin Mathis, Colin Mead, and Rebecca Mead, her uncle George Hemroth, 9 great-grandchildren, and several extended family members.
Calling hours will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, March 2, 2026 at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, NH.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 11 Park St., Newport, NH, followed by a celebration of life at the Church.
