Sidney G Thurber

Claremont, NH: Sidney G. Thurber, 70, passed away on January 29, 2022 surrounded by his loving family after a period of declining health.  He was born on June 23, 1951 in Newport, NH to the late Nathaniel and Ina (Ring) Thurber.  

Sidney lived in the area most of his life, working several different jobs over the years including as a truck driver, as a census taker, and most recently for NH DOT.  He was a simple, humble, hardworking man who would do anything for his family.  He married Diane (Morse) Thurber and they shared more than 49 years together.  He would do anything for her and always provided for her and his family.

Sidney loved cars and was always fixing one up and tinkering with them.  His favorite car that he owned was a Comet.  Sidney enjoyed going for a drive and was known as a bit of a lead foot.  He was an amazing teacher, always patient.  He loved Westerns and was an avid outdoorsman, always hunting and fishing.

Sidney was predeceased by his parents; twin sons, Nathaniel and Cedric; brother, Scott Thurber; brother-in-law, Paul Greenwood; and father-in-law, Ralph Morse.

Surviving family members include his loving wife of 45 years, Diane Thurber; daughters, Roseanna Rice and her boyfriend, Scott Hunter, Ivis Thurber and her fiancé, Chris Ayotte, Sr., Sheila Brochu and her husband, Justin, and Andrea Thurber and her fiancé, Tim Beard; adopted sons, Fred Elwell and Steve Deveney; adopted daughter, Brianna Thurber; sisters, Laura Ryan and her husband, Walter, and Carolyn Greenwood; mother-in-law, Helen Osgood and her husband, Waylon; aunts, Jeanette Ring and Rebecca Holden; 20 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.  

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 5 to 6 PM with a funeral service at 6 PM at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Newport, NH.
