Thomas E. Clough, Sr. Obituary

Edinburg, VA, April 17th, 2026:  Thomas E. Clough Sr. aged 77 years passed away, in the home he had shared with the love of his life Andrea. He passed peacefully overnight with his loyal cat Sarah keeping watch. Tom had fought prostate cancer, lung cancer and Parkinson’s disease for several years.

Tom was born in Claremont, NH in November of 1948 to Harold and Lucilla Clough of Clay Hill Rd. Tom attended St. Mary’s School and graduated in 1967. Tom and Andrea were married in September of that year and lived in Newport, NH. Tom worked for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company at the time. He changed jobs and began a 25-year career with Sturm, Ruger & Company in Newport. After retiring from Ruger’s Tom and Andrea traveled the country, while Andrea worked as a traveling registered nurse and Tom took on various jobs.

One of Tom’s most important contributions was to Newport Ambulance Service. He began with the Ambulance in 1969. He was a charter member of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians in 1970. Tom provided quality and caring service to the residents of Newport and surrounding communities for almost 30 years, touching countless lives in times of most need. His dedication to duty and humanity was exemplified one night after a terrible car accident. The accident took the lives of the parents of two small children. Tom brought the kids to his house rather than leave them at the police station. Andrea and Tom’s kids played and cared for the children until a family member could drive to Newport from southern New England to take custody of them.

Tom was also a member of the Claremont Chapter of the Jaycees. He served as Chapter President and was active throughout the State of New Hampshire supporting activities to improve the community. During his time in the Jaycees, he was a major contributor to raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He even had the opportunity to present a check representing the total raised, at the national telethon on TV. In 1980 Tom and family were named family of the year by the Claremont Jaycees. In 1982 Tom was named as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America.

An active participant at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Tom became a member of the Knights of Columbus in 1969. He was named Knight of the Year and served with distinction until leaving town. He continued in his faith most recently at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Woodstock, VA.

Tom was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Andrea and his brother Richard Clough. He is survived by his son Thomas E. Clough Jr., daughter Maria (Clough) O’Hearne, and son William C. Clough. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and a growing number of great-grandchildren.

There will be a prayer service and celebration held at Crow’s Nest Camp Ground in Newport, NH beginning at 11 AM on August 1, 2026.
