Susan C. (DuBois) Barna

Sunapee, NH: Susan (Sue) C. Barna, 76; born May 27, 1947 passed peacefully knowing the love of her family at The Sullivan County Nursing Home on March 24, 2024.

Sue was born to the late Maurice and Fannie DuBois. She grew up in Charlestown, NH with the fondest of childhood memories. After graduating from Charlestown High School, she went off to the “big city” of Manchester, NH to attend The Houle’s Beauty School. It was during this time that she met her husband Nicholas while he was serving in the US Navy aboard ship and the rest is history. Soon after falling in love they married on January 14, 1967. They moved to Sunapee, NH where she owned and operated a hair salon within her home, known as "Sue's House of Beauty" serving the community for many years. During these years, she had two daughters. Together, the family enjoyed many summers vacationing in Maine or spending time at the family pool. Sue also cherished her grandchildren and had many "adventures" to the White mountains and Lake George with the grandchildren in tow. Sue and Nick spent many years making their house a home, enjoying their love for antique cars and Caribbean travel. They made many memories on their vacations that at times also included Sue’s mom Fannie or the children.

Sue worked very hard all of her life. She loved her many hair clients in her busy little home salon or could also be found waitressing at various restaurants throughout the area. She also helped care for the elderly in her later years. She kept herself very busy. 

Sue also loved animals. She had many miniature schnauzers grace her home throughout the years, each one of them holding a special place in her heart. Sue also loved her four grandchildren deeply. She was very proud of each one of them and could often be heard bragging about their latest endeavors. Unfortunately, dementia robbed Sue of what should have been her golden years. The past several years have been difficult for both her and her family. They say dementia is the disease of a thousand deaths and this held true. Sue’s family wrapped her in love and did all they could to give her the best and safest care in her final years. Sue was best known for her beautiful blue eyes, bright smile and bubbly personality. In the end she had a beautiful life.

Sue leaves behind her husband, Nicholas G Barna, Jr. of 57 years; two daughters Jody Manson of Sunapee, NH; Nicki Sullivan and her husband Tom of Newport, NH; Her grandchildren Nicholas Sullivan of Silverdale, WA; Julia Sexton and her husband Kieran of Providence, RI; Cameron Manson of Hartley, DE; Madison Manson of Wilmington, NC and a nephew Mike Lemieux and his family of Claremont, NH.

She was pre-deceased by her parents; her sister Joanne Lemieux of Claremont, NH; niece Lisa Viens of Claremont, NH; and a niece Angela Chicoine of Surry, NH.

The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
