Raymond "Bud" L. Thayer

November 30, 1943 ~ December 11, 2015 (age 72) 72 Years Old

Unity, NH - Raymond "Bud" L. Thayer died suddenly on Dec. 11, 2015 at the New London Hospital.  He was born in Milford, MA on November 30, 1943 the son of Raymond A. and Ann (Sandberg) Thayer and spent his early years in Uxbridge.  Bud served with the US Army from 1962 - 1965, stationed mainly in Germany.

After his time in the service, he resided in Sandwich, MA for 35 years.  Bud had worked in the Parks Dept. for the Town of Sandwich for many years and then established  his own property maintenance company.  He was a man who friends looked to when they needed help with any project and he never turned them down.  Landscaping, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, cutting firewood, and snowplowing were among his many talents. After moving to the Unity area in 2000, he continued his love of working in the outdoors as the groundskeeper for Granliden in Sunapee, NH.   Bud also enjoyed target shooting, fishing and being a lobsterman when he lived on the Cape. 

He was pre-deceased by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Beck Laffoom.

Members of his family surviving include his wife of 49 years, Sheila (Hourihan) Thayer of Unity, NH; three sons, Raymond D. Thayer (Karen) of Meriden, CT, William D. Thayer and Steven L. (Jen) Thayer, both of Newport, NH; a brother, Robert (Gail) Thayer; a sister, Marilyn (Walter) Landry; three grandchildren, Raymond J. (Julianne) Thayer, Ryan M. Thayer and Mara JM Thayer; 2 step-grandchildren, Harley and Kurtis; and 1 great grandson, Raymond W. Thayer.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel at the Massachusetts State Veterans Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon, MA on Friday, Dec. 18th at 11:00am. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN  38101-9950.
