Floy (Collins) Smith

Keene, NH-Floy (Collins) Smith, 87, of Keene, NH, died Friday, November 25, 2016 at The Keene Genesis Center. 

She was born in New London, NH on August 12, 1929 the daughter of Henry and Lilian (Serviss) Collins.  Floy graduated from Sunapee High School.  She raised her family while living in Newport and Keene,  NH.  She worked as a phone operator in Newport.  After her husband's death she moved to Keene , working at the Keene Hospital on the switchboard while attending Keene State College.  She earned her Bachelor's Degree in 1969 and soon after she received her Master's Degree.  While going to school for her Master's, Floy taught art and history at Marlborough High School.  She also was the switchboard operator at Keene Hospital while teaching.  After retiring from Marlborough she did substitute teaching at Keene High School.  Floy was a worker and always had two or three things going at the same time.

She loved family get togethers and her home was perfect to host large events.  Sunday dinners were always at her house with family members coming and going.  She enjoyed playing bingo and knitting childrens' sweaters. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Clayton Smith, Jr., a granddaughter, Hannah Smith and a sister, Jeanne Quirk.  Members of her family surviving include four sons and their spouses, Clayton and Mary Smith of Jaffrey, NH, Duane and Carol Smith of Chesapeake, VA, Steven and Elveene Smith of Keene, NH and Michael and Sharon Smith of Seekonk, MA; 10 grandchildren, Shawna and her husband, Michael Macauley, Miriam Schacht, Iris Allaire, Tabitha Smith, Jamie Smith, Mindy Smith, Mark and his wife, Sara Smith, Tony and his wife, Sarah Sousa, Tasha Sousa and Jeremy Sousa; 11 great grandchildren, Nakia, Tristan, Dylan, Mya, Demian, Nobley, Margaret, Elijah, Nickolas, Molly and Graham; a sister, Edythe Dexter of New London, NH; a brother, Hugh Collins of Sunapee, NH, a brother-in-law, Philip Smith of Canaan, NH; nieces and nephews including a very special niece, Hester Langley of Sutton, NH.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. in Pine Grove Cemetery, Newport, NH.
