Girard J. Riley

Newport, NH-Girard J. Riley, 92, of Highland Ave., died on January 1, 2017 at Sullivan County Nursing Home in Unity, NH. 
 
He was born in Lowell, MA on March 4, 1924, the son of James F. and Esther (Girard) Riley.  He spent his early years in Lowell, MA graduating from Lowell High School in 1952 and then from Burdett College in Boston, MA, earning a degree in accounting.  He lived in Hudson, NH before moving to Newport in 1986. 
 
Gerry worked in sales all of his life.  He was employed by Fuller Brush and Sears before retiring from Montgomery Ward.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Newport Senior Center and a charter member of the Nashua Camera Club.  Gerry loved antiques. 
  
He was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Boermester, a brother, Frederick James Riley, and two grandsons, Jason Riley and Jesse LeBlanc.
 
Members of his family surviving include his wife of 41 years, Cecile (Lemay) Riley of Newport, NH, a son, Michael P. Riley of Nashua, NH, two daughters, Priscilla M. Marriott and husband, Ian of Semamish, WA and Jean Greenleaf of Nashua, NH, a stepson, Daniel P. Heroux of Newport, NH, three stepdaughters and husbands, Denise A. Burns and Alan of  Merrimack, NH, Madeleine L. Burns and Dennis of Hudson, NH, Janet C. Dow and Leonard of Newport, NH, a brother-in-law, Gerard Lemay  of Hudson, NH, sisters-in-law, Rita Barton of Hudson, NH, Gertrude Ducharme of Nashua, NH, Louise Guertin and Simonne Gamache of Nashua, NH, one grandchild,  two great grandchildren, six step grandchildren, eleven step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Family wishes to thank Sullivan County Healthcare, especially nurse Elizabeth, for their wonderful care of Gerry for the past 2 1/2 years. 
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Church, 32  Beech Street, Newport, NH with burial to follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. 
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sullivan County Healthcare, Activities Fund, 5 Nursing Home Drive, Unity, NH 03743.
