Gloria L. (Ferguson) Achilles

Sunapee, NH - Gloria L. (Ferguson) Achilles, 77, died unexpectedly on Friday, November 13, 2015.  She was born in Meredith on March 7, 1938, the daughter of Ralph and Adeline (Gould) Ferguson.  Gloria graduated from Stevens High School in 1956, and worked for Sturm Ruger and the US Post Office in Sunapee before retiring after many years of service.  After her retirement, however, she remained busy with part-time positions at Mt. Sunapee and the Sunapee Visitor Center, while volunteering at local thrift shops.  She and her sister always looked forward to the Sandwich Fair, where they sold their knitted and crocheted goods and homemade jams and jellies for their 28th straight year in 2015.

Gloria was predeceased by her loving husband, Louis V. Achilles, in 2000.  She was also predeceased by brothers Arthur and Francis, a half sister, Donna Robinson, and a granddaughter, Pamela (Achilles) White.  She is survived by her sister Priscilla and her husband, Steve Swenson, of Newport, NH; her endearing companion, Donald Heath; her three grandsons, Reggie, Robert and Michael Achilles; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and, two stepsisters: Eldora and her husband, Henry Farnsworth, of Lancaster, NH, and Bernice and her husband, Robert Connor, of Essex Junction, VT.

Friends may call at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Newport, NH on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 P.M.  A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 20, 2015 at 10:00 A.M.  Burial will be in Eastman Cemetery, Sunapee, NH.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Sullivan County Humane Society, P.O. Box 111, Claremont, NH 03743 in remembrance of Gloria's love and care for the many companion dogs in her life.
