Paul A. Gagné

March 20, 1938 ~ December 8, 2016 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Newport, NH: Paul A. Gagné, 78, died at his home on December 8, 2016 after a short battle with cancer.  He was born at home on March 20, 1938 in Claremont, NH to the late Albert F. and Beatrice M. (Corriveau) Gagné.  He grew up in Claremont graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1956.
 
Paul served his country in the U.S. Army from 1961 - 1963, stationed in Hawaii.  He started his career at Dixon's Super Duper in Claremont and then worked at Dixon's Food Center in Newport before spending 30 years managing Jiffy Mart in New London, NH. 
 
Paul and his wife, Bonnie, were married on June 20, 1964 and spent 52 years of marriage together.  Since retirement, they vacationed in York, ME every summer.  Paul took pride in maintaining his lawn, and was often seen mowing it.  He was passionate about the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, and the Patriots.  Paul was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge of Newport 1236 and of the American Legion Post #25 where he enjoyed playing cribbage and pitch.   He was a family man and loved spending time with them. 
 
Paul was predeceased by his parents, brother, Leo Gagné and sister, Eva Poisson-Laffin.
 
Surviving family members include his wife, Marilyn "Bonnie" (Minard) Gagné. Together, they raised five children, Kathy Gagné of Lebanon, Keith Gagné of Sunapee, Kevin Gagné of Claremont, Kelley Merritt and her husband Peter of Newport, and Kurt Gagné of Claremont, grandchildren, Jennifer Putzel, Makayla and Jacob Merritt, Zachary, Aaron and Cameron Waterman, Kurt Gagné, Jr., Elizabeth and Brian Gagné, and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.  He loved his grandchildren very much and was a very special Peperé.
 
The family wishes to thank Donna and Heidi of Lake Sunapee VNA and Hospice for the care that they provided Paul in his final days and to their many friends for their support.
 
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Paul's name may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Road, P.O. Box 9576 Wilton, NH 03086-9576.
 
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 from 4 to 6 P.M. and on Sunday, December 18 from noon until the start of the funeral at 1:00 P.M. at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Newport, NH.
