Vasilike Bessie (Demetrakopoulos) Juris

Vasilike Bessie Juris, 90, a long time resident of Newport, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Mountain Ridge Genesis Care Facility in Franklin, NH.

Vasilike was born in Manchester, NH on October 26, 1925, daughter of the late Arthur and Athena (Fousia) Demetrakopoulos. She was raised and educated in Manchester, NH graduating from Central High School. Vasilike was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She also worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Grand Union Super Markets before her retirement. She was fan of the Boston Red Sox. Vasilike was a loving mother, grandmother (Yiayia), and great grandmother (Big Yiayia). She loved spending time with her family.  She was a great cook and was known for her delicious Greek pastries. She married the love of her life, Alkiveadis “Al” Juris in 1948 and they celebrated 66 years together before his passing in 2014. She was a member of the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Newport, NH. Vasilike’s dedication to her church was noted; having received the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston Ministry Award twice. This award was bestowed upon her for her contribution of time and talents for the progress of her parish.

Vasilike is survived by her daughter Pamela Byers and her husband William, of Rochester, NH.; her son Evans Juris and his wife Lois, of Walpole, NH and Tarpon Springs, Florida.;  three grandchildren, Dr. Christopher Byers, Jenna Juris and her fiancé, Joseph Reinbold, and Alexa Juris; and one great grandson Joseph Reinbold.

Vasilike was predeceased by her husband Alkiveadis Juris, her sister Eva Gianakos of Michigan, three brothers, John Demetrakopoulos of Manchester, NH, Theodore “Ted” Demetrakopoulos, of Hooksett, NH, and Nicholas Demey, of Manchester, NH.

Friends may call on the family from 4 to 6 PM Monday, March 28, 2016, at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street in Newport, NH.  The Greek Trisagion will take place at 5:30 PM. 

The Interment service will take place at 11:30 AM Tuesday, March 29th in the Chapel at the NH State Veteran’s Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Vasilike’s name to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Newport.
